The name Shui Jing Fang means “the distillery by the well,” which refers to the founding well dug by Master Wang in 1408; the name “Wellbay” also refers to this. The original Shui Jing Distillery is recognized as the oldest continuously operating Baijiu distillery in China.
In 1998, as Sichuan Chengdu Quanxing Group Co., Ltd. renovated its distillery on Shui Jing Street, they unearthed a large-scale, ancient distillery which was found to be the original Shui Jing Distillery. The Chinese Academy of Sciences and Tsinghua University excavated the ancient cellars and extracted bio-cultures which are now part of the qu (fermentation agent) in every bottle of Shui Jing Fang produced.
