Two Nene birds. A burst of tropical color. Fifty years of painting Hawaii, distilled into eight inches of pure joy.

This is an original signed and numbered limited edition print by Rosalie Mae Prussing — "Nene's Hawaii," featuring two Nene birds among vivid Hawaiian flowers and foliage on a bright yellow background. Numbered 217/750, signed in ink by the artist on the lower right border. Circa 1970s–1980s. One available. Unframed. Ships in acid-free storage bag and rigid envelope.

Rosalie Mae Prussing (1924–2011) arrived in Hawaii in 1959 and fell in love with the islands the moment she stepped off the plane — and she never really left. For over fifty years she painted Hawaii with the whimsy, warmth, and botanical precision that made her one of the most beloved artists in the Hawaiian Islands. Her work was exhibited at local and national museums and galleries and is represented in private collections around the world. She passed in November 2011 at the age of 87, having spent more than half a century capturing the spirit of the place she called home.

The Nene — nēnē in Hawaiian — is the official state bird of Hawaii, found nowhere else on earth. Related to the Canada Goose, it migrated to the Hawaiian Islands thousands of years ago and adapted entirely to island life. Prussing painted them with obvious affection, surrounded by the lush flora of the islands in a composition that is as botanically rich as it is joyful.

A wonderful piece for a Rosalie Mae Prussing collector, a Hawaiian art enthusiast, a bird or botanical print lover, or anyone who wants a piece of genuine aloha spirit on their wall.
