He was born near Cracow, Poland and later entered seminary during WWII, when religious practice in Poland was forbidden by the Nazis. In 1978, after a rapid rise from priest to Bishop to Cardinal, he became Pope, reigning 27 years. Shot in an assassination attempt, he forgave his attacker, whom he visited in prison. He was a great orator, champion of mercy, and avid outdoorsman passionate about reaching each soul and acknowledging their dignity and beauty before God. In a nod to JP II, this Peruvian blend is bold, but leaves the bitterness behind, with a semi-sweet chocolate finish. The flavor profile features notes of fresh cedar that celebrate his love of the great outdoors, where he found God in creation.
